Deutsche Post attacks Amazon in the US

Parcel delivery in cross-border e-commerce has developed into a real growth driver for the Group.

Dusseldorf Deutsche Post is launching a counterattack against its rival Amazon abroad – above all on its home market. “Last year we delivered 500 million items in the USA,” reports Pablo Ciano, who has been on the Post Management Board since August 2022 and has been responsible for the parcel business beyond the German borders. “This makes us number two after Amazon in the US parcel market.”

While Amazon is increasingly taking market share in Germany with its delivery vehicles, parcel delivery in cross-border e-commerce has developed into a real growth driver for the Bonn-based group.

The former state-owned company had only spun off the business in the “DHL E-Commerce Solutions” division in 2019 and had to post a loss of 51 million euros just three years ago. In 2022, however, the foreign division already delivered sales of more than six billion euros and an operating profit of almost 400 million euros, as was announced a few days ago.
