Frankfurt Deutsche Bank is significantly thinning out the branch network of its Postbank brand. “We want to go from around 750 branches today to a target of 550 branches by the end of 2023”, Philipp Gossow, who is responsible for the branches and mobile sales of the Deutsche Bank and Postbank brands, told Handelsblatt. “To this end, we have signed an agreement with Deutsche Post that enables us to bring forward the closure of 100 branches, which would otherwise only have taken place in 2024 and 2025.”
The contracts between Deutsche Bank and Deutsche Post actually only provide for the reduction of up to 50 branches per year, so the separate agreement was necessary for the now larger number of branch closings.
In the past few years, Deutsche Bank had tried again and again to be able to close more locations, but most of the time it met with resistance from the Post.
