Desperately wanted women! The CDU has a problem – domestic politics

Yvonne Magwas (41, CDU), head of the “Group of Women” in the Union faction, sums it up at the Young Union’s Germany Day: “More women! We have to bring more women into offices and functions! “

The reason: “We no longer have a female chancellor and we also have no female prime ministers.” Her proposed solution: a dual leadership for the CDU. Majorities are currently not in sight.

The fact is: Chancellor Angela Merkel (67) served as a model woman for the Union for a long time. After the federal election, in addition to Merkel, party vice-president Julia Klöckner (48) and ex-party leader and defense minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (59) are leaving the CDU leadership.

There is currently no woman at all among the candidates for the successor to CDU boss Armin Laschet (60).

Ines Claus (44) is the only parliamentary group leader of the Union in a state parliament (Hesse). And the Young Union, too, with 30.7 percent women, is predominantly a boys’ union.

“Women must be strongly represented in the new leadership of the CDU. That goes without saying, ”demands Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek (50, CDU) in BamS.

“We have far too little put our good women in the foreground and made them visible,” says Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters (59) about the election campaign.

In the meantime, a fierce battle has broken out over the few posts that can be allocated in the Union in the opposition. Women’s Union boss Annette Widmann-Mauz (55) and Grütters have internally expressed interest in the office of Vice President of the Bundestag, as BamS learned.

Union parliamentary deputy Nadine Schön (38) and Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Education Karin Prien (56) are traded as possible successors to CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak (36).
