Dusseldorf The leading German index initially rose on Tuesday, but lost its gains again at noon. Most recently, the leading index was 0.1 percent weaker at 15,112 points.
In trading on Monday, the stock market barometer closed 1.1 percent higher at 15,128 points. One of the main reasons for this initial recovery was the good performance of bank shares: Deutsche Bank shares gained 6.3 percent, Commerzbank shares closed 3.6 percent higher. In the past week, Deutsche Bank papers had lost 15 percent at times, Commerzbank shares almost ten percent.
“The banking crisis is taking a back seat, at least for the moment,” said Thomas Altmann, portfolio manager at asset manager QC Partners. “However, it remains to be seen whether that will be enough for a longer recovery on the stock market.”
