Dax jumps to new record high

Frankfurt, Dusseldorf There is a new record on the German stock market. The Dax exceeded its previous record high on Friday and rose well above the 16,300 point mark to as much as 16,331 points in the afternoon. The previous record was 16,290 points. After reaching the all-time high, however, the Dax fell back slightly. At the close of trading, the leading German index was still up 0.7 percent at 16,275 points.

The Dax had approached its previous record with small steps. The friendly opening of the US stock exchanges gave the index an additional boost in the late afternoon. The EuroStoxx50 has meanwhile also gained one percent to 4412 points and is thus higher than it has been for 18 months.

Investors are counting on the victory of common sense in the USA. Hopes that the talks about raising the US debt ceiling will lead to an agreement have recently caused the stock markets to rise significantly.
