Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Munich For the German auto industry, the plug-in hybrid has been the preferred answer to challenger Tesla with its electric cars in recent years. The vehicles with the two drives, i.e. a combustion engine and an electric motor, were considered to be bridging technology. They should buy the industry time to cope with the transformation to electromobility technically and in a socially acceptable manner for the employees.

With 33,655 registrations, electric cars reached a new high in September. Compared to the same month last year, the number is almost 59 percent higher. For plug-in hybrids, registrations only rose by 13.5 percent to 22,842 units.
