Dusseldorf CSU General Secretary Markus Blume has accused the SPD, FDP and the Greens of creating confusion with contradicting statements about mandatory vaccination for certain professional groups. “There are chaos at the traffic lights,” said Blume to the Handelsblatt.

The contradicting statements by the FDP and the Greens on the obligation to be imposed showed that the traffic light was “unable to act” and had “significant signal interference right from the start”. “With ‘yes, no, let’s see’ you can’t fight Corona,” said the CSU General Secretary.

Green parliamentary leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt had previously announced an agreement by the traffic light on compulsory vaccination for certain professions, a short time later this was withdrawn on Twitter with the note that it was still being discussed. In principle, Blume supported the plan. “There must be a compulsory vaccination for certain professional groups,” said the CSU politician.

Blume criticized the future government coalition’s Corona course. “The ‘team caution’ is unfortunately being replaced by the ‘team don’t know’,” said the CSU General Secretary. SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz was “completely submerged again”. The tightening of the corona measures announced by the traffic light partners are necessary, “whether they are sufficient, I have doubts,” said Blume.

Mr Blume, Austria has imposed a lockdown on people who have not been vaccinated. Do we need it in Germany too?
We generally need contact restrictions for unvaccinated people. In addition, 2G and 2GPlus must become binding throughout Germany, not just in individual countries such as Bavaria.

After much criticism, the SPD, FDP and Greens want to sharpen their plans to protect against infection. Thereafter, contact restrictions and 3G in buses and trains should also be possible. Is that right?
You don’t even know what the traffic light really wants. Unfortunately, the “team caution” is being replaced by the “team don’t know”. And Olaf Scholz has completely submerged again. The announced resharpenings are necessary, whether they are sufficient, I have doubts.

Is that the end of the prolongation of the epidemic of national importance?
No, just the opposite. It is the completely wrong signal to declare an end to the epidemic situation of national importance at the height of the corona pandemic. And it is also inconsistent that the federal states can now explain the epidemic emergency while the federal government lets it run out. My impression is: Olaf Scholz and the traffic light are shirking their responsibility.

Lately there was a lot of criticism from the CSU at the traffic light. But why doesn’t the Bavarian state government simply impose the necessary measures instead of waiting for a nationwide regulation?
Bavaria has exhausted everything that is possible on the current legal basis.

Green parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt has announced that the traffic light coalition is also talking about compulsory vaccination for certain professional groups and wants to make a legislative proposal. Do you support this demand?
A compulsory vaccination for certain occupational groups must come. Only the contradicting statements on Monday by the Greens and the FDP about the compulsory vaccination show: The traffic light is not able to act and has significant signal interference from the start. Or in short: there are days of chaos at the traffic lights. Corona cannot be combated with “yes, no, let’s see”.

Thank you for talking to us, Mr Blume.
