Criticism of N26 bosses continues – Stalf defends himself

Frankfurt The criticism of the founders and bosses of the Berlin smartphone bank N26, Valentin Stalf and Maximilian Tayenthal, is harsh. In an email in February 2022, six executives accused the two of them, among other things, of “a culture of fear and blame” and “controlling behavior”. The relationship between the founders and the rest of the leadership team was “disturbed,” it said.

In an interview, Stalf has now publicly commented on the allegations for the first time – and is as self-confident as usual. “The reporting is based on an internal feedback email that is more than a year old. We want to live a very open culture at N26 and I believe that we have it,” Stalf told the Finance Forward newsletter. But he also added: “I take the points of criticism very seriously.”

Stalf and Tayenthal founded N26 in 2013, and since then the two native Austrians have been at the helm of the company.
