Berlin The N05-A natural gas field in the German-Dutch border area of ​​the North Sea is not gigantic. With an estimated volume of 60 billion cubic meters (bcm), however, it could make a useful contribution to easing the situation on the natural gas market somewhat. After all, 60 bcm corresponds to almost 70 percent of Germany’s annual natural gas consumption of almost 90 bcm.

But at the moment there are many indications that at least that part of the natural gas that is in the German part of the field will not be extracted. The Lower Saxony state parliament and the state government of Lower Saxony speak out against promoting natural gas from the border area. At the request of the government factions of the SPD and CDU, the members of the state parliament passed the relevant resolution in mid-October.
