Hanover Katja Dürrfeld will become the new CFO of the automotive supplier Continental after the departure of the long-standing board member Wolfgang Schäfer. The 49-year-old manager from her own junior executives will take over the function with immediate effect, as the Dax group announced on Tuesday. Dürrfeld had already been given good chances for the post, and in the meantime she had already continued the task below the Board of Management.

Schäfer resigned in mid-November because, under his overall responsibility, there should have been “deficits in the ongoing investigation” in an in-house investigation into the diesel scandal. In addition to the public prosecutor’s office, Conti had initiated his own examinations with the help of a commercial law firm. The central question was what role the company might have played in the creation of “Dieselgate”. There are allegations that employees developed technology for major customer Volkswagen in the knowledge that they could use it for illegal emissions software.

In a special meeting, the Continental Supervisory Board finally agreed that Schäfer resigned from his mandate. The manager had been on the management level of the Hanoverians since 2010, where he was most recently also responsible for controlling and compliance with legal standards.

Prosecutors have also been keeping an eye on Conti engineers for a long time when further processing the emissions scandal, which was first exposed at VW in 2015. There were several raids. The company did not want to comment on the current status of the legal proceedings on Tuesday with reference to the ongoing investigations.
