Compensation of the Dax bosses fell significantly in 2022

Dusseldorf, Munich The CEOs of the largest listed companies in Germany earned significantly less in 2022 than in the previous year. According to calculations by the Handelsblatt Research Institute, the Dax companies paid their CEOs a total of 73 million euros, almost twelve percent less than in 2021.

The total remuneration for all members of the Management Board also fell by six percent to a total of 647 million euros. This was mainly due to the weakening share prices and the corresponding reduction in bonus payments.

However, the range is large. While Post boss Frank Appel, Covestro CEO Markus Steilemann and Rheinmetall boss Armin Papperger only received around half of their previous year’s salary and some top earners such as SAP boss Christian Klein had to accept losses of around 20 percent, there were also managers who clearly earned more:
