Frankfurt The year 2022 was not only a difficult year for the stock markets. It was also a turbulent time for industrial metals such as copper, nickel and aluminum. They experienced a rollercoaster ride: the war in Ukraine initially caused prices to rise sharply, but the interest rate hikes by the central banks and the strong dollar then caused a correction.

So does 2022 already mark the end of the “super cycle” for industrial metals, which some analysts want to have seen begin as early as 2021?

No, according to Jeff Currie, commodities expert at Goldman Sachs: “The end of a price spike does not mean the end of a super cycle. In terms of fundamentals, the starting point for commodities has become even more bullish in 2023.”
