Last November, Olaf Scholz made a promise by which he is now rightly measured: If I become Chancellor, half of the ministerial posts will be filled by women.
In all honesty: I am stunned how difficult it is for the traffic light coalitionists to keep this promise.
The FDP is particularly uncomfortable here. It sees itself as a pioneer of progress, as a modern, future-oriented party with many talents. But to find two or a maximum of three women among the 76,000 members who can take on a ministerial office – this threatens to fail her.
We should be further in 2021, parity is really not an option anymore, it is a must. Half of society consists of women, which should also be reflected in a government.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Liberal Party Canada) showed how this works six years ago: 15 women ministers, 15 ministers, two with disabilities, two with a natives background, one with a turban. Trudeau: “Because it’s 2015.”
The fact that Germany is still rummaging in this way in 2021 is only one thing: embarrassing.
