Chief Physician on exhaustion: “Fantastic efficiency leads to self-exploitation”

Christian Graz probably has the most idyllic workplace that a chief physician could wish for. He works in the private Max Grundig Clinic on the Bühlerhöhe, in the middle of the Black Forest. The topics that Graz deals with are less beautiful: He treats sick managers.

Mr. Graz, the economy is in permanent crisis mode. What percentage of managers do you estimate are overworked?
Around a third of all employees in Germany were last diagnosed with a psychosomatic disorder such as anxiety or depression as a result of stress in 2021. The workplace is considered the number one stress factor. Psychological diagnoses account for by far the highest proportion of illness-related absences in companies. Managers are not considered separately. However, I am convinced that this professional group is affected above average.
