Chemical park boss Christof Günther on the consequences of high gas prices

Christof Günther is the managing director of Infraleuna, the operator of the chemical park in Leuna in Saxony-Anhalt. It is one of the largest and most modern chemical centers in Germany.

Numerous medium-sized companies, but also corporations such as BASF and Linde, operate systems there that are networked with one another and share the infrastructure, such as a gas-fired power plant.

Mr. Günther, how dependent are the chemical companies in the Leuna Chemical Park on inexpensive natural gas?
As the second largest gas consumer in East Germany, half of us need gas to fire the power plants. The other half is used as a raw material for chemical production. We are hit twice by the current gas price crisis.
