Cologne The greater the range of an e-car, the more expensive it is usually. There are, however, differences in the details, because in addition to the expensive battery, how well the manufacturers master the technical efficiency tricks also plays a role. And in the best case scenario, they cost almost nothing. Five models do particularly well in the cost-range ranking. But they are neither the cheapest nor the longest-ranging on the market.
5th place: Kia e-Niro 64 – 85.91 euros per kilometer
The Korean Hyundai-Kia group has a whole range of inexpensive and at the same time long-range electric cars in its range, the Niro offers the cheapest ratio, at least in theory. It costs 39,090 euros before deducting the e-car premium, and the range is 455 kilometers – a stunner in this price range.
4th place: Kia e-Soul 64 – 83.60 euros per kilometer
Technically closely related group siblings such as Hyundai Kona or Kia e-Soul achieve similar price-range values. The latter combines a price of 37,790 euros with a range of 452 kilometers. The slight price advantage lets it pass the Niro. The Koreans should benefit from their relatively long experience with e-mobiles across their entire range of models. All models have been optimized in detail several times over their construction period.
3rd place: Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor – 82.90 euros per kilometer
With the Swedish crossover sedan, there is also a premium model in the ranks of the euro-per-kilometer champions. Although the four-door model costs a lot of money at 44,930 euros, it also offers decent value with a range of 542 kilometers. In principle, the lavishly motorized Polestar would probably not be counted among the particularly efficient models, but not least thanks to its better aerodynamics, it beats the competition with similarly sized batteries in terms of consumption. A good part of them are bulky SUVs.

2nd place: Tesla Model 3 LR AWD – 81.42 euros per kilometer
When it comes to battery technology and overall efficiency, the Californians have gained a lead over the entire industry. However, because the vehicle prices are correspondingly high, only the Model 3 achieves a place in this list of the best: 49,990 euros purchase price meets 614 kilometers of range. This is unmatched even in this upscale price range.
1st place: VW ID.3 Pro S – 77.20 euros per kilometer
The Wolfsburg-based company was the first volume manufacturer to consistently develop a car around the electric drive. Apparently it was worth it. At 42,460 euros, the top version of the compact sedan is barely available at affordable prices, but the range of 550 kilometers is already in the premium range.
The particularly affordable models did not make it onto this list. That’s how it is Dacia Spring At 20,490 euros, it is currently the cheapest e-car, but the ratio to the practical range of 230 kilometers is only enough for an upscale midfield position. 89.10 euros are due per kilometer.
The range masters are clearly lagging behind. The current record holder Mercedes EQS (780 kilometers range) is simply much too expensive to achieve a top rank at 106,374 euros. 136.38 euros are due per kilometer.
