Chancellor to cuddle: Merkel teddy bears are made in Coburg | Regional

Coburg – Angela Merkel (67) is now joining Barack Obama and King Ludwig: At the end of their term of office, a Coburg teddy factory produced a stuffed bear that is reminiscent of the Chancellor.

Merkel diamond, Germany chain, blazer and hairstyle make the approximately 40 centimeter tall bear recognizable as the chancellor.

“We try to express moments of contemporary history in teddy bears as an art form,” said managing director Martin Hermann. “Personality bears” are a tradition at the 101-year-old Upper Franconian family business: In addition to Obama and King Ludwig, there are replicas of former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and Queen Elisabeth II Hermann.

The Merkel teddy bears cost 189 euros. “These are not children’s toys, they are collector’s items,” said Hermann. 500 pieces will be produced – and one of them will go to the Chancellor herself. The Bundestag member of the Coburg constituency, Hans Michelbach (CSU), was given the teddy bear with him to Berlin.

The MP should hand over the copy with the number “16” – symbolically for the duration of Merkel’s term of office – to the Chancellor.
