A few years ago, Fresenius was still a haven of stability in uncertain times on the stock markets. The healthcare group was considered so solid and successful that it was almost boring. But boredom has been over since this year at the latest. The Bad Homburg Dax group and its dialysis subsidiary Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), which is also listed in the Dax, make new headlines almost every month, most recently mostly negative ones.

The departure of Carla Kriwet as CEO announced on Monday after only two months is now the last, but also the most serious of this news. The fact that Kriwet failed in its determination to restructure the group in the important US market puts a damper on all the employees outside the US who had hoped for a cultural change at the dialysis group.

Because the company, which generates around 70 percent of its sales in the USA, will be even more focused on the USA with the new boss Helen Giza. The planned relocation of IT services to the USA is an example of this. Also that there are no longer four world regions in business, but a North America segment and an international one, the second.

For Fresenius boss Michael Sen, who took office at the same time as Kriwet as CEO of the parent company Fresenius, leaving Kriwet is a good solution. Because Kriwet was considered the preferred candidate of his predecessor Stephan Sturm. And a CEO with a strong creative drive is likely to run counter to his own plans for a new start at Fresenius.

Helen Giza, on the other hand, fits better with Sen’s plans to make the group more profitable with her previous transformation work. And should be open to a possible spin-off from Fresenius Medical Care, which is repeatedly called for by investors.
