Infineon is investing 1.6 billion euros in its new semiconductor factory in Carinthia.

Villach, Klagenfurt The clock is ticking: “We’re looking for 100 people by the middle of next year,” says Claus Lachmann. The head of personnel at the chip machine manufacturer Lam Research in Villach is under pressure. After all, he has to increase the workforce by 15 percent. The flood of orders can only be brought under control if the manager can fill the many vacancies.

Like Lachmann, semiconductor companies all over Carinthia are desperately looking for employees. In the wake of Infineon, the chip industry is flourishing in the Austrian state – from plant manufacturers such as Lam Research to research institutions and manufacturers.

In mid-September, the Dax Group inaugurated its newest factory in Villach. CEO Reinhard Ploss is investing 1.6 billion euros in the location.
