Cologne The rising prices are noticeable in the car industry. Spare parts cost more because energy is becoming more expensive and raw materials for production are sometimes lacking. “Between August 2021 and August 2022, car manufacturers increased prices by almost eight percent on average,” says Jörg Asmussen, general manager of the German Insurance Association (GDV).

This is also reflected in the repair costs of motor vehicle insurance: “Last year, damage to a car cost the motor vehicle liability insurer an average of EUR 3,375, also around eight percent more than in the previous year,” says Asmussen.

The premiums for car insurance are also increasing accordingly. Therefore, many car owners are thinking about changing insurers. This is usually possible until November 30th: “But drivers should not only pay attention to the amount of the premium. Much more important is the quality of the insurance, which can make a big difference in the event of damage,” says Michael Franke, Managing Director of the rating agency Franke und Bornberg.
