Nine firefighters were killed when a cave collapsed in Brazil.
As the fire brigade of the state of São Paulo announced on Sunday via Twitter, a person could be saved. There are no other victims on site. The rescue workers had previously looked for colleagues who had been buried in the cave.
According to the fire brigade, a total of 28 emergency services had taken part in a safety drill in the “Duas Boas” cave near the town of Altinópolis when the cave roof collapsed and part of the group was buried. Heavy rain and the risk of further collapses made the rescue work more difficult.
The town of Altinópolis is known for its caves and waterfalls in the area, which are also visited by many tourists.
