Frankfurt Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr is facing a third term. According to information from the Handelsblatt, when the inspectors of the aviation group meet for their first meeting of the current year on March 2nd, they will clear the way for this from those close to the supervisory board. The same applies to CFO Remco Steenbergen.

“There is nothing standing in the way of an extension of Mr. Spohr’s and Mr. Steenbergen’s contracts, that is considered certain,” said those close to the supervisory board. A company spokesman declined to comment on the information. In principle, one does not comment on matters of the supervisory board, it said.

Spohr has been in charge of Europe’s largest airline group since May 2014. His current contract runs until the end of the year. Steenbergen took over his position at the beginning of 2021. At that time, as is usual with Lufthansa, he initially received a three-year contract. As a rule, companies decide about an extension of the contract about a year before the end of the contract.
