BMW intends to continue investing in petrol and diesel

Munich Despite all commitments to the electric car, BMW is still planning to use combustion engines for a long time. The Handelsblatt learned from corporate circles that the X-series cross-country vehicles will also be built with petrol and diesel engines well into the coming decade. To this end, the models for the period after 2027 are to be further developed on a new vehicle platform that enables all drive concepts.

Mercedes is also keeping its options open when it comes to phasing out combustion engines. Officially, the group plans to sell almost exclusively electric cars from the end of the decade. However, with one crucial caveat: the “Electric only” strategy applies “wherever market conditions allow”.

In view of the sluggish sales of electric cars in China and the USA, Mercedes could therefore hold on to the combustion engine for longer. An indication of this: According to insiders, the Stuttgart-based company is modernizing its V8 engine M176 again.
