Munich BMW major shareholder Susanne Klatten resigns as head of the supervisory board of the graphite specialist SGL Carbon in May. The 60-year-old wanted to give up her mandate on the supervisory board after the general meeting on May 9 for personal reasons, SGL announced on Monday evening.

Klatten was actually elected until 2025. With 28.5 percent, the billionaire is the largest shareholder of SGL Carbon through her investment company Skion, the car manufacturer BMW – in which she has a stake – holds 18.4 percent. “Your commitment as the main shareholder of SGL Carbon remains unaffected by your personal decision to resign from the Supervisory Board,” emphasized the company.

Klatten is the richest woman in Germany. She also sits on the supervisory boards of the chemical company Altana, where she is deputy chairwoman, and of BMW. She is also involved with “UnternehmerTUM”, the start-up center of the Technical University (TU) Munich.
