BER Airport does not expect any problems for leisure airlines

Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Berlin The capital airport Berlin Brandenburg (BER) sees a delivery embargo for Russian oil rather calmly. The airport does not have to worry, but is ultimately indirectly affected by the airlines, said airport boss Aletta von Massenbach. Because of the kerosene, the airlines have their own supply contracts with mineral oil companies.

BER has indications that the mineral oil companies “can meet their delivery obligations,” emphasized von Massenbach. Although the airport provides the infrastructure for storing the kerosene, the airport boss explained, the supply contracts are a matter for the airlines with the oil companies.

Brandenburg’s Economics and Energy Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD), on the other hand, sees the situation less calmly. The background is that the greater Berlin-Brandenburg area is supplied with 95 percent of petrol, diesel and heating oil from the PCK refinery in Schwedt, Brandenburg. The capital’s airport is also dependent on the kerosene of the refinery, which is majority-owned by the Russian state-owned company Rosneft.
