Berlin In view of an increasing number of new leases linked to inflation, several federal states co-governed by the SPD and the Greens are calling for federal intervention. Precisely because of the overall rising prices, for example for food and energy, which have been a burden on tenants for months anyway, he is in favor of “regulating the increase in index rents through a uniform statutory regulation at federal level,” said the Hessian Minister of Economics, Tarek Al -Wazir (Greens) the Handelsblatt.

The minister was open to a push from Hamburg. The red-green Senate of the Hanseatic city proposes that index rents can only be increased by a maximum of 3.5 percent per year, even if the cost of living increases significantly.
