Dusseldorf The fifth-largest German auditing firm, BDO, will be managed by dual management in the future. The long-standing board members Andrea Bruckner and Parwaz Rafiqpoor will share the chairmanship of the Hamburg company on July 1, 2023.

They take over from Holger Otte, who led BDO for 13 years and will be stepping down as chief in the middle of the year at the age of 70. However, he should continue to work for the company and remain associated with it as an anchor shareholder.

With a turnover of more than 300 million euros recently, BDO is the closest pursuer of the “Big Four” in the auditing business, which includes PwC, Deloitte, KPMG and EY. The company caused a stir in 2021 when it won the audit mandate at the software group SAP. For the first time, one of the medium-sized service providers succeeded in penetrating the Dax segment, which is dominated by the four big providers.

Otte then underlined that there were ambitions to gain further mandates from Dax companies in the coming years. So far, however, BDO has not come back into play in the current rotation round. The topic is now on the agenda of Bruckner, 60, and Rafiqpoor, 50. Bruckner is currently responsible for the areas of human resources, quality assurance and digital transformation at BDO.

Rafiqpoor is a lawyer and is responsible for BDO’s Tax & Legal, Advisory and Marketing departments. New to the board is Jens Freiberg, 45, who is responsible for capital market-oriented companies at BDO and will also be increasingly responsible for international business in the future.

“By setting the course in terms of personnel, we are continuing to build on our wealth of experience and at the same time are rejuvenating the Management Board,” said Otte. “We are thus laying the foundation for BDO, with its 103-year history, to continue to have a successful future, which my family is happy to continue supporting.”
