Dusseldorf Volkswagen’s battery unit PowerCo wants to build up a lot of additional staff this year. The aim is to employ up to 1,500 people by the end of the year, said personnel manager Sebastian Krapoth to the Handelsblatt – PowerCo currently has around 800 employees. “We want to have hired our thousandth employee by summer,” said Krapoth.

The company is primarily looking for chemists, development and process engineers for battery cell production in Salzgitter and procurement experts for battery raw materials.

PowerCo is also increasingly looking for suitable specialists in Asia, who are difficult to find. Most battery companies worldwide are located in Asia, also for the automotive sector.

At the headquarters in Salzgitter, PowerCo will also retrain many employees from the local VW engine plant for battery production, said Krapoth. PowerCo also wants to attract more skilled workers and specialists to the city in Lower Saxony with an in-house collective agreement.
