Berlin After the Russian withdrawal from the eastern Ukrainian city of Lyman, displeasure is growing in Putin’s power apparatus. Influential allies of the Kremlin chief, such as the Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov and the head of the mercenary group “Wagner”, Yevgeny Prigozhin, are venting their anger at the military leadership in their Telegram channels.
As early as mid-September, the Chechen leader announced that if necessary he would travel to Moscow to explain to the Ministry of Defense what should be done. “If you ask me, I would declare a state of war and use every opportunity to deal with these infidels as soon as possible,” he said on Telegram at the time. A general mobilization is necessary.
Kadyrov, who is one of the leaders of the Russian republic of Chechnya on behalf of the Kremlin, has earned the nickname “Putin’s bloodhound” for his brutality. His army is also deployed in the Ukraine war – and is said to have been involved in the atrocities in Bucha.
