New York, Düsseldorf According to Handelsblatt information, Wolfgang Haupt, founder of the controversial start-up Augustus Intelligence, died in a helicopter crash. The accident is said to have occurred on Sunday afternoon near Buchen in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to Haupt, two other people were killed in the accident. The television station NTV reported about it first.

The Augustus Intelligence company hit the headlines mainly because of the lobby affair of the CDU politician Philipp Amthor. He had lobbied for the company, held a director’s post and received stock options. The former head of the protection of the constitution and CDU Bundestag candidate Hans-Georg Maaßen had also received an advisory contract and options from Augustus.

Former Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU), who was temporarily “Chairman for General Affairs” of Augustus Intelligence, was one of the investors in the German-American start-up.

The company, valued at around $ 250 million in its prime, went bankrupt in April. The US Securities and Exchange Commission is also looking at the case. It should be about possible misconduct by former managers and raised capital.

Wolfgang Haupt

The German founder apparently died in a helicopter crash.

The 34-year-old Wolfgang Haupt was born in Fürth and studied medicine at the private University of Witten-Herdecke and, according to his own statements, also at the Harvard Medical School. His company allegedly operates data centers in the USA and wants to offer software for facial recognition, for example. However, there are hardly any Augustus products.
