Interbank Card Center (BKM), came up with the data for the month of August. According to the shared report, in our country 81.1 million credit card, 143.7 million bank card and 52 million It turned out that a prepaid card was used. It was observed that there were 12 percent, 3 percent and 43 percent increases in these cards, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to BKM’s data, the total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in August increased by 51 percent compared to August 2020 and reached 153.6 billion TL. 125 billion TL of this was realized with credit cards. Bank cards of 26.3 billion TL and prepaid cards of 2.3 billion TL were preferred.

Payments by credit card grew by 49 percent compared to the same period last year. There was a 55 percent change in debit cards and 178 percent in prepaid cards.

The number of commercial credit cards exceeded 7.3 million in August. The amount of payments made with these cards increased by 62 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 37.7 billion TL. According to the information announced, 1 TL of every 3 TL credit card payment was made with commercial credit cards.

The impact of the tourism sector on credit card expenditures!

The sector that grew the most in card payments was airlines with a growth of 126 percent. Travel agencies came to the fore with a growth of 114 percent in the second place and accommodation sectors with a growth of 107 percent in the third place. The double growth of these three sectors compared to last year indicated that we had a better year for tourism in the summer of 2021. Finally, growth was seen in the clothing and food sectors.
