Asia’s stock markets slide significantly ahead of US Fed meeting

Asian investors retreated ahead of the Fed meeting.

Tokyo, Frankfurt Asia’s stock markets are significantly weaker on Tuesday morning. Almost all Asian trading centers – with the exception of China – slipped by more than one percent due to concerns that the US Federal Reserve would tighten its gold policy more quickly.

Japan’s Nikkei index fell more than two percent to 27,015 points this morning local time – its lowest level since August 20. South Korea’s Kospi fell 1.8 percent to 2742 points. Hong Kong’s Hangseng index fell 2.1 percent to 24,136 points and Singapore’s Strait Times index fell 1.2 percent to 3,243 points. China’s stock exchange also started the day with moderate losses: the Shanghai Composite began trading around 0.6 percent weaker.
