Asia’s stock markets slide significantly ahead of US Fed meeting

Asian investors retreated ahead of the Fed meeting.

Tokyo, Frankfurt Asia’s stock markets are significantly weaker on Tuesday morning. Almost all Asian trading centers – with the exception of China – slipped by more than one percent due to concerns that the US Federal Reserve would tighten monetary policy more quickly.

Japan’s Nikkei index closed 1.7 percent weaker at 27,131 points. In the course of trading, it was even at minus 2.5 percent, its lowest level since August 20th. South Korea’s Kospi fell by more than two percent to 2741 points. Hong Kong’s Hangseng Index fell nearly 2 percent and Singapore’s Strait Times Index fell more than 1 percent. China’s stock exchange extended the losses during the day: the Shanghai Composite Index in China lost 2.6 percent.
