Berlin From March 1st, the state development bank KfW will be accepting applications for the new “Climate-Friendly New Construction” (KFN) development program. New construction and initial purchases of residential buildings and condominiums in Germany are funded, but the funding is subject to strict sustainability requirements.

A total of 750 million euros are available in the form of low-interest loans. Unlike before, there are no more repayment grants with the new program. Investors, cooperatives, companies and private individuals can apply.

Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) spoke at the start of the program of “sustainable and cross-generational funding”. For the first time, the entire life cycle of a building is taken into account, “from construction through operation to possible future conversions”. Families with low and middle incomes should be given special support. But critics say the details of the entire program sound better than they really are.

KfW funding for new construction starts on March 1st
