Artist Dennis Klapschus opens candy shop in Essen | Regional

Eat – His art is a matter of taste – and that is to be taken literally with his latest project in Essen-Werden.

In the historic Weberhaus, built in 1756, of all places, pop art painter Dennis Klapschus (36, sells comic art for over 20,000 euros in his gallery) opened a specialty shop for American sweets with his family.

This is how the day starts sweet: American breakfast cereals

At “Mama Candy” there is something that is hard to get in German supermarkets and that young people are obviously crazy about: breakfast flakes with marshmallows, strangely sweet “nerd ropes”, crackling chewing gum, brightly colored lollipops and much more.

Klapschus runs the shop together with his wife Shabnam (36) – based on the ideas of their daughters Soraya (15) and Chanel (12). “They both know the sweets from social media, they know what is in demand,” says the proud dad.

They try things out together, not always to the delight of the parents. “A lot is very cute, but kids have their own taste …”

Apparently, the cute family hits them pretty well: The many fingerprints on the shop window are proof of the attraction of the shop: “I want that, and that, and that too …”
