Apply for a property tax exemption by March 31

Frankfurt Ancillary costs such as insurance or electricity continue to run, regardless of whether a property generates rent or not. One of these constant costs is property tax.

But every year there is the opportunity to get at least part of the property tax back. This always works when landlords have made significantly less income from their property than originally planned. The Treasury has pity and grants a reduction in the property tax by 25 or even 50 percent in these cases.

The new property tax calculation has cost property owners time and effort in recent months. Nobody knows how high the new tax will be.

Applications for a property tax waiver for 2022 can be submitted until March 31, 2023. The Handelsblatt explains who is entitled to how much property tax relief, where it has to be applied for and whether the application deadline can be extended if necessary.
