Announced How Many People Live in ‘Own House’ in Turkey

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) terminated the “Building and Housing Qualifications Survey”, which it conducted due to the lack of sufficient records on building and housing qualities. Research covering the period from October 2021 to April 2022included important data about households in Turkey.

The data shared by TUIK is only for those living in Turkey. 47.4% of them live in buildings built in 2001 and after. revealed. This means that more than half of the population lives in buildings older than 20 years. But the results are not limited to just that.

More than half of the people living in Turkey live in buildings older than 20 years.

Construction year of buildings: of the people;

• 12.6% of them 1980 and before,
• 30.9% 1981 – 2000
• 19.3% 2001 – 2010
• 28.1% live in residences built between 2011 and 2021.

6 out of 10 people live in their own home

Host: of the people;

• 60.7% own the house they live in,
• 27.6% are tenants,
• 8.4% do not own the house they live in and do not pay rent,
• 0.9% of them live in lodging.

Multi-storey buildings: of the people;

• 17.3% is two-storey,
• 14.4% is five-storey,
• 13% is 6 floors,
• 11.7% is single storey,
• 9.5% of them live in buildings with 10 or more floors.

Number of rooms: of the people;

• 47.5% have four rooms,
• 38.6% have three rooms,
• 6.3% have two rooms,
• 1.4% have six or more rooms,
• 0.3% live in one-room dwellings.
• 43% of single-person households are in three-room residences,
• 50.1% of nuclear families live in four-room houses.
• 49.1% of the households consisting of at least one nuclear family and other persons have four rooms,
• 43% of households with more than one person without a nuclear family live in three-room dwellings.

1 out of every 3 houses still has a stove!

Heating: of your households;

• 47.7% of them are floor heating,
• 35% stove,
• 11.2% use central heating.
• 59.6% natural gas,
• 33.5% of fuels such as coal and wood,
• 6.2% is heated by electricity.

Almost 1 in 4 buildings with 6 or more floors do not have an elevator!

Other data: of your households;

• 46.4% live in buildings with three or more floors, while 35.6% without elevators.
• 23.2% of buildings with 6 or more floors do not have an elevator.
• 43% live in buildings with parking.
