“I was in a certain drawer early on because I was particularly popular in romantic comedies. I received most of the offers for such films. But the older you get, the more difficult it gets ”, she tells BILD am SONNTAG.

“In my 30s, I had so many incredibly exciting and great roles. But as soon as you’re 40, you’re a woman on the sidelines. ”The last major leading role was a while ago. MacDowell felt useless to her industry. Until that day the phone rang and she was offered a job on the series “Maid” (Netflix). “My daughter had already starred, but someone was missing to play her mother. My daughter threw my name in the ring. She’s just a smart girl, ”said the Hollywood star with a laugh.

Andie MacDowell actually got the job and is happy that her daughter Margaret Qualley (27) got her the job – and not the other way around. “She has always been very focused on stepping out of my shadow and doing her own thing. Many people always condemned her and said that it was easier for her as my daughter. But now it is more likely that it is easier for me as her mother. “

“Maid” revolves around a young woman (MacDowell’s daughter) who flees from her violent boyfriend with her small child, but also has big problems with her mother (MacDowell). The drama series has received international acclaim from both critics and viewers.

“It’s like a revival for me,” says Andie MacDowell, who now wants to attack again and doesn’t want to take on any role. “I’ve already canceled an offer. I want to be an actress who creates, not just repeats. So far, there are hardly any romantic comedies for people my age. I hope that at some point that will change and that I can then play this role. “
