Stuttgart Allianz Leben will keep the interest rates on life insurances stable in the coming year despite the persistent low interest rates. For classic life and pension insurance, the current interest rate in 2022 is on average – as in this year – at 2.3 percent, as the industry leader announced on Monday in Stuttgart.

The value is made up of the surplus participation, the amount of which the insurers decide depending on the economic situation and the success of their investment strategy, and the guaranteed interest rate set by the Federal Ministry of Finance, which will decrease to 0.25 percent in the coming year after 0.9 percent last year.

If you have an old contract with a higher guaranteed interest rate, you can be sure of this guaranteed interest rate. With the newer Allianz model without guaranteed interest, the current interest rate will remain unchanged at 2.4 percent in 2022.

Life insurance customers whose contract expires in 2022 can expect a total return including terminal bonus of 2.9 percent for classic products and 3.2 percent for the model without guaranteed interest.

“We will continue to focus on generating value in the ongoing phase of zero interest rates” so that customers can secure an additional income in old age, said the future CEO of Allianz Leben, Katja de la Viña.

Volker Priebe, Member of the Board of Directors for Product and Private Customers, expects interest rates on the financial market to “remain low in the medium and long term.” Allianz also offers products that no longer guarantee 100 percent receipt of the contributions, but should offer a higher return . “Beyond the business areas where this is not required by law, the focus is on these offers,” said Priebe. “If I choose contemporary products, it opens up scope for a higher return.”

When it comes to investing customer funds, Allianz Leben is committed to sustainability. “We have set ourselves the goal of reducing the CO2 emissions of our investments in stocks, corporate bonds and real estate by a quarter over the next three to four years. We support and advise the companies in which we invest, ”said Priebe. Returns and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. “A paradigm shift has taken place. If you want to generate returns in the future, you will hardly invest in coal, for example. “
