Berlin Complaints from consumers about airlines and Deutsche Bahn have increased massively in 2022. This emerges from the annual report of the arbitration board for public transport (SÖP), which is available to the Handelsblatt. In the past year, 30,307 arbitration requests were received from travelers. That is almost twice as many as in 2021 (15,674 applications), when travel was still severely restricted due to the corona crisis.

The SÖP is recognized by the federal government as an arbitration board for traffic and travel. She also takes care of complaints about trips by long-distance bus or local public transport.

Most cases in the past year were received between August and November. Because there are often several weeks or even months between the respective travel event and the complaint, from the point of view of the arbitration board this primarily reflects the summer travel season. Thousands of connections had to be canceled mainly due to staff shortages at airports and airlines.
