Dusseldorf, Berlin Germany is falling behind in the international innovation race. This is confirmed by a new study by the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the consultancy Roland Berger, which is available to the Handelsblatt in advance.
In the new figures, Germany only occupies tenth place in terms of innovative ability – far behind countries such as Switzerland, Singapore and Denmark. Germany has even fallen behind when it comes to developing new key technologies such as computer chips or artificial intelligence.
According to experts, the main reason for Germany’s innovation problem is the poor connection between scientific institutions and the economy.
The study shows that universities and companies in Germany do significantly less research together than in other countries. In addition, the economy invests its money in the further development of existing products rather than in future technologies.
