Berlin Three AfD members of parliament are traveling to the Russian-occupied areas in eastern Ukraine this week. The trip is apparently organized by Russia. “In view of the distorted and partisan reporting on the Ukraine conflict, we want to get our own picture of the situation and assess the humanitarian situation,” wrote Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, deputy chairman of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt and member of the state parliament, on Twitter.

The previous Ukrainian ambassador in Germany, Andriy Melnyk, accused the AfD politicians of supporting the Russian “war of annihilation” with their trip to the Donbass.

Tillschneider’s parliamentary colleague Daniel Wald spoke of a “harmless delegation trip to Russia and eastern Ukraine”. The North Rhine-Westphalian AfD member of parliament Christian Blex is also part of the travel group.
