Berlin According to the opinion trend of the Insa Institute for the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”, the Social Democrats can again slightly gain favor with voters. If there were a federal election on Sunday, the SPD would get 20 percent again for the first time since the beginning of July, one percentage point more than in the previous week, the paper reports from the survey.

The Greens remain stable at 21 percent and the CDU/CSU is the strongest at 28 percent. 8 percent of voters would still choose the FDP, and 12 percent would choose the AfD.

The left remains at 5 percent, the other parties could unite 6 percent of the vote.

The next mood test for the entire Federal Republic will take place on October 9th with the state elections in Lower Saxony. It is the last state election of the current year.

In polls, the SPD led by Prime Minister Stephan Weil well ahead of the CDU and the Greens. But Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24 also left its mark in Lower Saxony. It’s hard to say what impact concerns about inflation and the gas crisis will have on the election,” emphasizes Manfred Güllner, head of the opinion research institute Forsa.

In the last survey in Lower Saxony, the SPD was still at 30 percent at the beginning of July. But the lead over the co-governing CDU has shrunk continuously in recent months.

Should the SPD lose the post of prime minister in Hanover, this should trigger considerable shock waves to Berlin. After all, Weil has been in power in Hanover for eight years and, according to Philipp Koker from the University of Hanover, is a driving force for his party.
