A year of rethinking – the turning point in twelve graphics

Olaf Scholz

A good year ago, the chancellor proclaimed a turning point in Germany – a lot has happened since then.

Berlin When Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz appeared in front of the German Bundestag on Sunday a year ago to react in a speech to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which had just begun, he coined the term “time change”. “We are experiencing,” said the Chancellor at the time, “a turning point. And that means: The world after is no longer the same as the world before,” Scholz said at the time. This statement applies in particular to Germany itself.

The Federal Republic had to free itself from dependence on Russian gas in record time.

Germany has to reorganize its economic model at record speed in order to reduce its dependency on autocratic regimes – above all on China.

And also at record speed, Germany must modernize the Bundeswehr in order to restore defense capability and meet alliance commitments.

The turning point has already fundamentally changed Germany. An interim balance over a year of turning point in twelve graphics.
