Today, citizens in Kırklareli encountered a message from AFAD that created a short-term panic. The message read, “There is danger of radioactive fallout, go to shelter immediately”. Kırklareli Governorate announced that the message was for testing purposes.
In our country, various warning systems are used that send notifications to citizens in case of a disaster. One of these systems was the system developed by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, allowing citizens to send messages to their mobile phones in an emergency. But today, this system of AFAD Caused panic in Kırklareli.
Citizens were shocked by a message sent to their mobile phones by AFAD. In the message “There is a danger of radioactive fallout. Enter the bunker immediately. Do not leave the shelter until you hear the news that the danger has passed.” statements were included. However, it was learned with a later statement why this message was actually sent.

Kırklareli Governorship, in the announcement shared after this event, stated that siren, live announcement, SMS and mobile notification systems are being controlled within the scope of the test studies of the siren system established by AFAD as of November 23, 2021. About the message sent to the citizens today, “The announcement made by AFAD was sent inadvertently. The exercises are for practical purposes..” expressions were used.
Some test messages were on the agenda in Turkey before. A few months ago, iPhone users said that the ‘stay home Turkey‘ he woke up with warnings. But these messages seemed more like an error than a test. Vodafone Turkey apologized for the disruption.
