Washington When Joe Biden and congressional leaders meet at the White House on Tuesday, they will address their most pressing issue for the first time. So far, the dispute over raising the debt limit has been fought in social media and fire letters, now the negotiators are face to face.

Without a higher limit on government borrowing, the US faces national bankruptcy, but the conflict between Democrats and Republicans has been dangerously long. “The consequences are unimaginable,” says Neil Bradley, deputy chief of the American Chamber of Commerce. Both sides had hardly moved for months, now a deal must be decided as soon as possible.
