We talked to Turkish technician Samet Saray, who has been working with SpaceX until recently and is now one of the names shaping the technology of the future. The answers given by Saray are also helpful to people who want to work in such jobs in the USA.
There are thousands of young people in our country who want to work in companies that shape the future like SpaceX. People who think that this is a dream can reach much more advanced levels when given the opportunity. Turkish technicians, who have crossed this threshold and chased after world-renowned companies. Samet Saray we talked to
Born in Fatih, Istanbul, Samet Saray continued his career, which started at Turkish Airlines, by working at SpaceX in the USA in the production of the shuttle to be used in space travel. Now one hundred percent electric flying car Saray, who works in eVTOL production at Supernal, which produces, answered the questions we posed to him. Answering many questions from what kind of boss Elon Musk is to the future of electric flying cars, the Palace also made suggestions for people who want to work in the USA.
What kind of experience have you gained over 2 years at SpaceX? The first Turk to go into space will go to space with SpaceX’s Dragon Capsule, what are your thoughts on this subject?
I took part in the production of Dragon Spacecraft at SpaceX for over 2 years. First of all, I realized that when I work hard and focus, anything is possible. They have a younger and more dynamic staff than other aviation companies, and the corporate culture is not traditional but innovative. It is a place where employees who do their job well can rise very quickly. Even though I was very new, I was also offered to be an instructor.
The first Turk to go to space will go to space with the most reliable and technological capsule, namely Dragon Spacecraft. Frankly, I am very happy that I took part in this project and put my effort into it.
What kind of decision do you think it would be if the F-16 pilot would be the first Turk to go to space?
I think it is the right decision for our first astronaut to be an F-16 pilot. This is how the first auditions were held in America. I’m sure he will do this job well.
You started working with Supernal, which produces 100% electric flying cars. When do you think these flying cars will become common, are they only produced for the wealthy? What technology is behind it?
I have entered a sector that I have not experienced before and now I am involved in the production of electric flying cars, which is very exciting. My guess is we’ll see it in the sky around 2025, and I think it’ll become common around 2028. No, these are tools made for everyone, not just the wealthy. It is used like a taxi in the early times and is produced for individuals over time. Devices full of technology that are much quieter than airplanes and helicopters, which have autonomous software and are powered by batteries.
Could you tell us your thoughts about eVTOL and Starship?
I think eVTOL and Starship will change the way we travel in the future. It would not be ethical for me to go into technical details on these issues, but I can say this; Jetsons is coming.
You have a tweet comparing the Togg kW/h charge in Turkey with the Tesla kW/h charge in California. How do you think this price difference can be reduced?
In fact, I would expect electric vehicles to be more affordable in Turkey because most people do not have a private garage like in the United States, and they will have to charge outside. I don’t think it makes any sense to spend more or less the same amount of money as gasoline for a charger. I hope the authorities change this.
From one of your tweets, we saw that you were able to travel with your ex-boss Elon Musk’s private jet. What do you think he is like? There are controversial sides and praiseworthy sides. What is your opinion?
I think Elon Musk is not like other people. He’s different, smart, egoless, and has dreams that others wouldn’t think of. I have worked in many companies, I have seen an employee who loves his boss so much for the first time together.
Tesla Model Y, which you have been using in America for a long time, has started to be sold in Turkey. What do you think are the pros and cons of the car? What advice do you have for first-time users?
I’ve been using Tesla Model Y for two years. I think it’s a great tool, it wouldn’t be wrong to say it’s the iPhone of cars. Fast, reliable, robust, technological and inexpensive. I can only criticize this; Interior material quality is average. My advice to the first users is that they will speed up frequently because it is very fast, but be careful. Also, when you press too much, the battery runs out quickly. 🙁
We know that SpaceX only recruits US citizens; Do you have dual citizenship, if not, how were you recruited as a Turk?
No, they recruit not only citizens but also Green Card holders. I just recently received my US citizenship, now I am a dual citizen. But when I was working at SpaceX, I had a Green Card. I would also like to add: If you don’t have a Green Card or US citizenship, don’t apply, you won’t even be considered.
