Berlin Simone Hartmann* has had a new job for some time that she doesn’t like doing. The Bavarian tax officer is actually a tax auditor and checks whether the tax returns of the companies in her district are correct.
This is not always the case. Civil servants like Hartmann are therefore particularly important for the state. According to the state finance ministries, only one tax auditor adds an additional million euros to the Treasury coffers each year.
But for some time now, Hartmann has also been responsible for another area two days a week on instruction: property tax. She now spends almost half the week processing the appeals that the tax offices are currently receiving in large numbers against the notices. And that has drastic consequences for all taxpayers.
