These are the most important tech trends of 2023

Dusseldorf In the new episode of Handelsblatt Disrupt, editor-in-chief Sebastian Matthes, tech reporter Larissa Holzki and Silicon Valley correspondent Stephan Scheuer discuss the technology trends that will be important this year. Their conclusion: 2023 will be the year of artificial intelligence (AI).

Chatbots will not replace human work, but they will take on more and more routine tasks, they predict, and explain to what extent this also affects journalism.

Tech reporter Holzki takes stock: “2021 was a boom year, 2022 was a shock year,” she says. “Now we are in a new year.” According to Holzki, investments by venture capitalists would change significantly in the future – with positive implications for the economy and society.

Matthes discusses with David Dao how new technologies can be used to protect the climate. He is the founder of Gainforest, a non-profit initiative whose AI-powered software helps calculate and predict rainforest deforestation.

Dao not only wants to monitor deforestation with satellite support, but also wants to control the flow of donations. “We need to safely get donations to where people are getting in the way of deforestation,” he says. In Brazil, for example, guards against illegal clearing in the rainforest are manned day and night. Gainforest’s projects are running in Bhutan, Brazil, Paraguay, the Philippines and in the future in Rwanda.
