Berlin IG-BCE boss Michael Vassiliadis defends himself against the accusation that the relief model for citizens and companies proposed by the gas expert commission benefits wealthier people disproportionately. Vassiliadis is one of the three chairmen of the commission convened by the federal government. “It’s not that we as a Commission didn’t prefer a fairer solution. But here speed comes before accuracy and individual justice,” Vassiliadis told Handelsblatt.

“Unfortunately, the energy suppliers only know the gas connections, but don’t know what’s behind them. We had to face this reality,” he added. What Vassiliadis means: The suppliers don’t know what fate actually lies behind the respective gas meter: that of a family of eight on 55 square meters or that of a millionaire.
